Emeras: The Island

The Isle of Emeras rises sharply out of the Last Sea, its sides steep cliffs rising over jagged, ship-breaking rocks. Behind the cliffs, the land continues to rise to a sharp, mountainous ridge line encircling the deep bowl of the island’s interior. Sheltered from the wind and salt-spray driven by the ocean storms that batter the island’s exterior, the inner slopes of the encircling ridge are thickly forested, with the trees giving way to scrub land and eventually a dusty prairie towards the flatter, less sheltered centre of the bowl.

On the south side of the island, a large salt water lagoon sheltered by two out-thrusting arms of rock provides the only way onto the island without risking shipwreck. It was here that the first Kingdom explorers came ashore and here, on the relatively gentle shore of the lagoon that a port has been built for getting supplies onto Emeras and, more importantly, its produce off.

Features

The information supplied by the outgoing incumbents about what’s on the island is sparse to say the best.

It’s known that a pass crosses the ridge from the lagoon on which the port is constructed and gives entry to the island’s central region where the dust gathering operation will be centered. It is known that Calchas’s operation had a base camp near the inner end of the pass and several mining camps on the floor of the crater nearer to where the dust was mined. Unfortunately no information has been given on the exact whereabouts of any but the main base camp.
